Safety Tips For Night Driving
When the sun goes down, the number of serious auto accidents goes up. Stay safe in the dark by keeping the following night driving tips in mind:
SLOW DOWN!
Drivers often speed at night to get to their destination quicker. This endangers everyone on the road, including themselves. But night driving is the time to slow down. Drivers have decreased visibility and tiredness that makes it harder for them to see…and to react.
CHANGE DRIVERS!
Be aware that older drivers may have a particularly difficult time driving at night due to night vision issues. Older drivers make for older eyes that can have greater difficulty seeing objects in the road. Vehicle headlights may appear blurrier making it more difficult to judge distance, which is a real problem when crossing traffic. Blurry taillights may cause older drivers difficulty knowing that the car in front of them has slowed or suddenly stopped. You wouldn’t let your friend drive you while drunk, would you? So if your driver is of a “certain age”, be nice but firm and take control of the steering wheel. Tell them personal injury attorney Dale Appell said it’s the right thing to do for the sake of you both, plus other drivers on the road.
CLEAN WINDSHIELD!
A clean windshield during the day is nice. At night, it’s crucial. That’s because dirty windshields can cause blinding glare from oncoming traffic. Any time you notice your windshield is dirty, don’t wait for the next day or the weekend to clean it. That may be too late to save you from a serious accident. Carry Windex and paper towels in your car or pull over at a gas station and use their squeegee [and perhaps buy yourself a coffee].
